How does HIFU work?
HIFU treatment uses ultrasound to heat deep tissue and target specific cells. This then forces the body to activate cell regrowth by promoting collagen production in the area. Collagen is one of the fundamental materials in the skin, responsible for its structure and elasticity. As we age, our cells lose their firmness and elasticity. This often causes wrinkles and saggy skin. To restore this tightness, we introduce intense heat into the cells and stimulate the production of new collagen fibres. Even though this heating causes cellular damage, it’s not something to worry about. Our cells die every day as new ones are created to replace them.
HIFU treatments simply control this process of cellular regrowth by targeting specific areas to make you look younger. HIFU can reach the deepest skin layers to create a rejuvenating effect. We’re talking about even the Supercial Muscular Aponeurotic System (SMAS) – the skin area targeted during conventional surgery. In summary, the high-intensity ultrasound waves target and destroy cells, encouraging the body to lay down new collagen. So, you’re getting rid of flabby cells and replacing them with firm, elastic ones. The result, a youthful glow and restoration of your convenience. What’s great about this treatment is that it can work for fat, wrinkles, ne lines or any other signs of aging that don’t match your image of yourself. The ultrasound waves in HIFU are quite different from those used for imaging tests by doctors. HIFU ultrasound has a lower intensity and frequency, specifically targeting and destroying certain cells. The machine used is also different. For our remarkable non-invasive body sculpting procedures, we use the BTL Exilis 360 machine. A small, handy, but highly functional piece of equipment that is 100% safe to use on tissues with no harm or damage.
What does the research say about HIFU?
Many studies have shown that HIFU is one of the most effective and noninvasive ways to achieve body rejuvenation, remove wrinkles and eliminate stubborn fat.
According to a 2018 analysis published in the journal of Dermatologic Surgery, it was concluded that “Ultrasound seems to be an efcacious, effective and safe modality for correction of skin laxity, lipolysis and decreases the appearance of cellulite.” In the analysis, 231 different studies on HIFU were reviewed. The studies addressed everything from body sculpting to skin tightening, cellulite reduction, decolletage and reduction of abdominal and thigh fat.
They all showed remarkable results in the study participants. Several other analyses and studies have explored the use of HIFU in overall body rejuvenation treatment, and all show that the procedure is efcacious with minimal side effects.
What does the HIFU Treatment feel like?
HIFU procedures are very simple and will be over before you know it. We advise our clients to drink at least 2 liters of water 24 hours before the procedure. Water is integral to collagen production, and drinking enough increases the benets you’ll get from the procedure. All you need to do is show up for the procedure. Our technician will apply the ultrasound gel to the relevant area. The HIFU device will be placed on your skin after the ultrasound gel has been applied.
There are three different treatment applicators, depending on the area of your body you wish to address. The technician will select the appropriate applicator and adjust the machine settings based on your desired results. After that, the procedure will begin. Expect to feel some heat and tingling sensations around the area during the session. However, the entire procedure will feel like a hot stone massage, so you don’t have anything to worry about. The entire session will last between 30 and 90 minutes.
